Availability is easier to see between the big moments

A beautiful date can create hope. Emotional availability becomes visible afterward: in the follow-through, the honest answer, the repair after tension and the space made for your experience.

It is not a performance of perfect communication. It is a consistent willingness to be known, to know you and to respond to what the relationship requires.

Look for four ordinary behaviours

An available person can name what they want, make plans that become real, stay present when a conversation has emotional weight and take responsibility when their behaviour has an impact.

They do not need constant access to you, but you can understand where you stand. Their words and actions form a recognisable pattern instead of asking you to interpret a new reality every week.

Replace potential with a four-week record

For four weeks, record observable behaviour after each interaction. What was said? What happened next? How did you feel before, during and after? Avoid writing the future you can imagine with them.

At the end, ask whether the pattern contains reciprocity, clarity and repair. One intense evening should not outweigh a month of inconsistency, and one imperfect moment should not erase a month of care.

Choose the relationship that exists

Healthy love becomes possible when you respond to present capacity. You can appreciate someone’s potential and still choose according to what they are able to build with you now.
